Captures presents “L’instant déplacé”, an exhibition by Japanese artist Yuki Onodera, bringing together four series along with previously unpublished works. The exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of a practice developed over nearly forty years by this internationally acclaimed artist.

For Yuki Onodera, photography is a central means of expression. In recent years, she has explored the recomposition of her silver gelatin prints through collage and large-scale formats, producing numerous experimental works that question “what the photographic medium is” and “what photography can do.”

Her images are created by altering the conventional use of the camera, constructing narratives in the studio from historical or legendary events, or traveling to the other side of the world to photograph according to protocols that generate new stories.

Yuki Onodera’s work is held in numerous institutional collections, including the Centre Pompidou, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, J. Paul Getty Museum, Shanghai Art Museum, National Museum of Modern Art Tokyo, and Tokyo Photographic Art Museum.

Major solo exhibitions have been presented worldwide, notably at the National Museum of Art, Osaka (2005); Shanghai Art Museum (2006); Tokyo Photographic Art Museum (2010); Seoul Museum of Photography (2010); Musée Nicéphore Niépce, France (2011); Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris (2015); and Centre Photographique Mougins, France (2022).
